All children are unique and special. Every child has skills, talents and abilities that distinguishes them from others. Some children find math easy but reading more challenging. Other kids may find it hard to concentrate and focus. Some children find school is not challenging enough. For all children, it’s important to understand their strengths, weaknesses, interests and learning style so that they can achieve their maximum potential. Specifically, understanding your child’s developmental, cognitive, academic and social-emotional profile is necessary to be learn well, enhance development, maximize their potential and ensure their happiness.
A psycho-educational assessment is an individualized process that uses a variety of assessment tools to develop a thorough understanding of your child’s cognitive, academic and social-emotional profile conducted by a registered school psychologist. The assessment includes an interview with family to learn about one’s concerns, a review of your child’s academic records and individualized in-person assessment sessions. After the assessment sessions are completed, one’s results are scored and interpreted. Then, the psychologist writes a report that is detailed with individualized recommendations to help each young person achieve their maximum learning potential.
How can a psycho-educational assessment help?
The results of a psycho-educational assessment can help you to understand the learning style of your child. Assessments can also identify if your child struggles with problems like attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety and/or a learning disability. Understanding your child’s strengths, needs, skills and abilities are extremely important to ensure they are adequately challenged and/or able to gain access to the supports that they need to be successful both academically and socially-emotionally.
